 ABOUT PAGE

Dan OConnor, Director of  Military Dog Handlers Inc.

He served in the Military from 1970-1973 as a Army Military Police Sentry Dog Handler. When He got out He worked for a K-9 Facility in Orlando Florida that Trained Police and Security Dogs as well as Private Sector Dogs. He was so fascinated with all the Training and Operations, He became a Certified Police K-9 Unit Instructor for Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Standard Training Division.

Assigned to a Local Police Department with a Facility in Lake Helen, Florida, He not only Trained, Certified Police and their K-9 Units, but also provided In-Kennel Training, Boarding and Grooming as well as Guard Dog Rentals. Not only did He provide the Training and Services to the Community, He sat on several Animal Control Boards advising the Local Governments of what Laws to pass. Provided Animal Control Service to 2 Cities and Court Certified Cruelty Investigator. He served the Community and Law Enforcement for 30 years, then retired in 2003.

In 2015 He started Military Dog Handlers. Mostly self funded, He took on the task of helping Military Personnel returning home find employment. Looking for Handler's Dogs that they wanted to adopt. Helping Homeless Veterans get set up with the VA Health care system as well as support. Working with our Elected Officials to make Laws supporting Both Military and Police Dogs.

In 2021, Military Dog Handlers Inc became a 501C3 non profit Organization.  Located in beautiful Central Florida. We decided to turn our attention to take retired Hero Dogs and rehome them with Veterans. All over the World when a Military, Contract or Police Dogs retire, more often then not  they're euthanized because the type of Training they've had and couldn't be rehomed. This is where we come in with our knowledge and experience. We can provide them with a safe and secure location. Then, we evaluate them and place them in forever homes with Veterans. We feel it's a win win situation.  In their time of Service these Dogs have saved countless lives and we own it to them to have a enjoyable retirement.

We will accept Military, Police or Contract Dogs that can be rehomed. We invite you to come along for the Journey and help these Dogs.  It's important that you help us raise funds to take care of these Heros.
